Good Boy by &TEAM, Produced by Cortis: All You Need to Know

When the credits for &TEAM’s new song Good Boy dropped, COERs lost their minds. And rightfully so.

Every single Cortis member is on it as a composer and lyricist, with Martin also credited as additional producer. This is not a small thing. This is Cortis’s fingerprints all over an &TEAM song and somehow &TEAM made it completely their own at the same time.

This Song Was Made Before Debut

Here is where it gets really special. Good Boy was not written recently. If you have watched the Cortis documentary you already know. The Good Boy songs from &TEAM are literally Cortis documentary songs. They wrote this before they debuted. Before they had a stage, before they had fans screaming their name, they were already in the studio writing songs. And one of those songs ended up on an &TEAM album. Let that sit for a second.

Pre-debut Cortis sitting down and writing something that would eventually end up released by one of Hybe’s groups on a proper mini album. These are not boys who started making music when they debuted. They were already doing the work long before anyone outside of Hybe knew their names.

You Can Hear Them On It

Listen to the song and at 1:20 you can distinctly hear Cortis on it. The energy, the pocket, the way the production moves. Once you know it is them you cannot unhear it. But what is impressive is how &TEAM took what Cortis gave them and made it fully their own. That is what a real collaboration looks like. The DNA of the song is Cortis and the performance is completely &TEAM. Throughout the whole track you can trace where each contribution lives and &TEAM went and made it feel like something only they could deliver.

What &TEAM Said About It

EJ saying he wants to actively collaborate again is everything.

&TEAM went into this wanting a hip-hop sound and Cortis delivered exactly that. The result was something both groups could be proud of and the credits prove it was a full creative effort from everyone involved.

What This Means

Cortis are not just performers. They are not a group that shows up and sings what they are given. They write. They produce. They have been doing it since before anyone outside of Hybe knew their names. Good Boy is one more piece of evidence in a growing file.

Martin as additional producer. All five members as composers and lyricists. On a song written pre-debut that ended up on a released Hybe album. These boys have been building something for a long time and we are only just starting to see how much of it is already done.
